Joyriders burn out car close to playing pitches

JOYRIDERS left another burnt out car for authorities to clean up in Ballyfermot this week, the latest incident occurring at California Hills.

The Echo understands the car gained access to the park via the Ballyfermot Sports Complex on Friday night, ramming it’s way to the amenity via a metal fence.

The vehicle was subsequently burnt out close to sports pitches, where kids played GAA matches the following morning.

Dublin City Council have recently installed gates to prevent vehicles gaining access to the park, which is subject to plenty of anti-social activity.

However, a number of stolen cars have been burnt out in the Drumfinn area of Ballyfermot since the start of the year, including a vehicle burnt out at the front gates of St Louise’s National School.

A Rossmore resident told The Echo “we have been plagued by stolen vehicles in the area. “The vehicle was set alight a few yards from Rossaveal Court care centre on Drumfinn Road – it is very distressing for our elderly residents,” said the resident.

“The vehicle entered the park from the Ballyfermot Sports Complex on Gurteen road. I would just like to highlight the ongoing problems for residents and sports clubs in the area.

“St Patrick GAA, Ballyfermot De La Salle GAA and Palmerstown Football Club, plus all the walking groups and residents young and old, use the combined two parks of California Hills park and Glenaulin Park. Hopefully, the council can arrange for the main entrance gates to sports complex to be closed.”

The Echo contacted Dublin City Council, they did not comment before going to print.
