RELAY For Life Ballyfermot kicked off their 2018 fundraising with a lively lip sync battle in the Ballyfermot Sports and Social Club recently.

Over the last five years, Relay For Life Ballyfermot has proved popular with residents, the event celebrates people and families affected by cancer.

Three Cherry Orchard brothers Wayne, Daniel and Kevin McGarry, started the initiative in 2013 to honour their mother Patty McGarry, who sadly passed away that year after suffering from a cancer related illness.

“Since it’s inception, nearly €90,000 has been raised for the Irish Cancer Society,” said Daniel.

“On Friday, six contestants took to the stage in their second lip sync battle, which saw some amazing performances such as Frozen, Robbie Williams, Shrek and Donkey, ABBA, Beauty and the Beast and Peter Andre.”

Kevin McGarry’s rendition of Peter Andre’s Mysterious Girl was the judges pick of the night.

The Relay For Life 24-hour run did not take place last year due to Daniel getting married, but residents will be looking forward to taking part again this year.

The 24-hour relay sees teams provide a member to continuously run or walk around the track non-stop during the course of the event.

It has proved incredibly popular with up to 2,000 people involved in the 2016 event.

The Relay features a 24-hour run at Le Fanu Park, with teams of people committing at least one member of their team on the track at all times.

Relay for Life Ballyfermot takes place August 4/5 in Le Fanu Park, The Lawns.
