End of an era as Pat retires from Council’s civic office

PORTER Pat Scully has been the friendly face of South Dublin County Council’s civic office in Clondalkin for close to 20 years, but Friday will signal the end of an era, when Pat retires from his role.

Clondalkin resident Pat has worked as a porter in South Dublin County Council since 1999.

He started in the Tallaght offices and was subsequently sent to Clondalkin civic offices where he worked very happily alongside Paddy Hayden.

When Paddy retired, Pat took over and has been manning the day-to-day operations at the Clondalkin offices ever since.

Annemarie Fitzpatrick, SDCC Customer Care, said: “Pat is the first person you meet when you visit the Clondalkin offices. He deals with all the councillors, staff, and all the different tenants in a friendly and efficient manner.

“All the children who use the crèche in the building run to Pat each morning for a big hello and a smile. He will be greatly missed by all the staff and public alike and it will be very difficult to replace him.”

Newly elected Mayor of South Dublin County Mark Ward praised Pat during his acceptance speech last week.

Mayor Ward said: “I want to mention Pat Scully who is retiring next month after many years’ service. I want to publicly thank him for helping this rookie councillor out.”
