Marks and Spencer employee charged with 131 counts of theft over two months

A MARKS and Spencer employee in the café in Liffey Valley stole nearly €6,000 over two months last year, Blanchardstown Court has heard.

Angela Martin allegedly stole small amounts between €20 and €50 at a time.

Martin, aged 61, with an address at Greenfort Lawns, Clondalkin, is charged with 131 counts of theft of cash totalling €5,832 on dates in July and August 2016 from Marks and Spencer, Liffey Valley, Clondalkin.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge David McHugh that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

She said it will be alleged that Martin was employed in the Café in Marks and Spencer in Liffey Valley and that between July and August 2016, she removed sums of cash from the till totalling €5,832.

Sgt Callaghan said there was 131 charges.

Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction.

Martin’s solicitor, Simon Fleming, asked the judge to make an order for disclosure.

Making the order, Judge McHugh told Mr Fleming that with 131 charges there would be a lot of disclosure.

He remanded Martin on continuing bail for a month for a plea or a date for hearing.
