THERE have been no local authority houses built in Clondalkin this year, but South Dublin County Council says that 28 houses were delivered for the area in 2019, via acquisitions and private builds.

Of the 28 houses in Clondalkin delivered to the end of August 2019, some 17 houses were Approved Housing Body (AHB) acquisitions, and four were local authority acquisitions.

From the remaining 11 units, four were AHB builds and seven came under Part V – which allows local authorities to obtain a percentage of new housing developments for social housing.

According to SDCC, current construction projects in Clondalkin this year include 63 units at St Cuthbert’s in Bawnogue.

Work on the St Cuthbert’s site is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

A further four Tuath Housing units were delivered in March at Collinstown Grove.

Projects with Part 8 planning approval include 44 units at Riversdale, which has just gone out to tender for a contractor, and 10 Simon Community units at the Nangor Road, with construction set to commence there shortly.

Meanwhile, SDCC say a cost benefit analysis is currently being prepared for the Department of Housing in relation to plans for 92 units at the former Eircom site on Nangor Road.

SDCC say the project will be in excess of €20m. A Part 8 report was presented to councillors at the recent monthly meeting.

According to the quarterly housing report, the Department of Housing have a total target of 511 houses for SDCC this year, of which 435 are new builds and 76 are acquisitions.
