Residents ‘sick’ of drug dealing and burnt-out cars

BURNT-out cars and an “notable increase” of crack and weed dealing in Bawnogue, has left residents “sick” of the anti-social issues in the area, according to Independent Councillor Francis Timmons.

Cllr Timmons said: “There is now eight burnt-out cars in the canal field and residents are sick of the open drug-dealing and criminal activity that has seen an upward spiral of late.

There is a notable increase of people coming into the area to buy crack and weed.

I have had a lot of contact from residents and have reported concerns to South Dublin County Council anti-social unit and the gardai, who both need to act swiftly to deal with the issues.

“I know some arrests have been made of late and some progress is being made but residents feel there is a lack of action that would not be allowed continue if it were anywhere else.

I am asking SDCC to get these cars removed and look at anyway we can make it more difficult to access the canal area.’’

Cllr Timmons also encourages parents to be aware of where their children are “at all times and what they are involved in.”

“Crosscare provide teenage drop-ins and activities locally, and Clondalkin Celtic Football Club is a very active local club, so there are things to do locally,’’ he said.

“Along with my call for increased resources, I am also calling on anyone with any information to contact the Clondalkin Garda Station at 6667600 or the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111 or Crimestoppers Freefone at 1800 250 025.”
