Lucan by Luas may not happen for 10 years

By Brendan Grehan

SOCIAL Democrats Local Area Representative and General Election candidate Anne-Marie McNally has said that the Oireachtas Transport Committee were told that the extension of the Luas to Lucan will happen, but realistically we are looking at a 10-year time frame from design and implementation.

On Wednesday, representatives from the National Transport Authority told Social Democrats TD Catherine Murphy it is envisaged design plans for the Lucan Luas extension would happen but the timeframe is likely to be over the next 10 years.

Ms McNally said:”During a Committee session regarding the new Dublin BusConnects proposals, Catherine Murphy raised some issues regarding how Lucan might be impacted by the new bus proposals. I canvassed some estates over the last week regarding the BusConnects plan and it is clear that people feel that there is a lack of information regarding what the changes might mean for the area.

“In response to a question regarding the connectivity of transport options particularly for areas on the fringe of the city such as Lucan, the NTA official said that the Luas proposal is still very much included in long-term transport plans for the city, however we can expect a waiting time of roughly 10 years.”

She added: “In the meantime I would encourage people to engage with the BusConnects public consultation which is currently underway and will remain open until September 14.”
