100k cycling challenge helps raise funds for Pieta House

By Brendan Grehan

DOUBLE European Indoor gold medallist David Gillick is supporting the Pieta 100 cycling challenge. Now in its fifth year, the Pieta 100 cycling challenge raises awareness and vital funds for Pieta House in their fight against suicide.

David told The Echo: “Since opening their doors 13 years ago, Pieta House has heard painful truths from thousands of people of all ages, who have come to them at the lowest point in their lives.

Events like this are critical for Pieta to continue to provide a direct service, but also an opportunity for people to enjoy the outdoors, be active and most importantly getting out with friends and meeting people.

Social connection is at the heart of Pieta House’s mission.”

Since its inception this cycle has raised over €300,000 for Pieta House’s free suicide prevention and intervention services. They rely heavily on support from the public to help them continue to work with people to lift levels of suicide ideation, to help them bring hope back into people’s lives and to support people and families that have been impacted by the loss of a loved one by suicide.

The Pieta 100 Cycle Dublin/Kildare is on August 18 starting / finishing in Leixlip Amenities.

As over 85 per cent of its income comes from fundraising events and donations, Pieta’s 15 Centres nationwide and three Outreach and one Inreach services all rely on fundraising and public support. Darkness into Light, the Pieta House flagship fundraising event of the year, was highly significant with 200,000 across the globe taking part in the fight against suicide held on May 11 last
