A great way to spread the Christmas spirit!

By Maurice Garvey

VINCENT de Paul members and volunteers took part in a bucket collection at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre over the weekend.

Members from SVP branches in Clondalkin, Lucan and Ballyfermot were shaking buckets and encouraging shoppers to pick up something extra and donate a gift to children in need this Christmas.

Liffey Valley VdP Giving Tree

Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald, launched the annual St Vincent de Paul Giving Tree in Liffey Valley on Friday.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Fitzgerald said “It’s great to see so many locals here today collecting for this great cause. The tree, right in the centre of Liffey Valley, is proving an attraction for shoppers and the Morris Brothers from Ballyfermot are spreading Christmas cheer with a sing-along.

“The Giving Tree is a fantastic and thoughtful way to help spread the Christmas spirit. You can pick up a tag from the Giving Tree which lists a person and age group, and you then buy a new gift for the child or adult on the tag.

Drop the unwrapped gifts under back to the volunteers in Liffey Valley before December 22.

Christmas can be a financially difficult and stressful time for families, and volunteers will be shaking buckets in Liffey Valley until December 22.

“I know from families I have met through my work in the area, that their help (SVP) and kindness is much appreciated,” said Minister Fitzgerald.
