Businesses encouraged to support Heart of Autism Ball

BUSINESSES in South Dublin County are being encouraged to support the annual Heart of Autism Ball, which raises money for a Tallaght-based, parent-run organisation dedicated to the provision of social, sporting and cultural activities for local children on the autism spectrum.

Established in June 2014, Social Circle is a fun club for children on the austism spectrum, their siblings and parents – with the organisation not only providing activities but promoting inclusion, offering support and generating awareness.

Run voluntarily by parents Mairead Mekki, Tallaght, and Laura Hegarty, Walkinstown, the group has more than 120 member families, who engage in a number of weekly activities, such as art, Lego clubs, music therapy, science, football and swimming – with families also enjoying monthly trips and camps.

To fund the programmes, which are offered to children with autism and their families for a minimal cost, Social Circle is taking its annual fundraiser to the floor of the Maldron Hotel, Tallaght, on April 1.

Called the Heart of Autism Ball, the event will be held in aid of Social Circle and My Canine Companion, and it needs support from local business to make its fundraising drive a success.

Tallaght parent and Social Circle co-founder Mairead Mekki told The Echo that there are a number of ways businesses, which are looking to give back to their community, can support the event.

A business can sponsor a table for €350, buy a table for €650, donate spot prizes or provide items for goodie bags.

Mairead said that Social Circle would love for some of the local business community to attend on the night.

However, those who can’t attend can sponsor a table – which will feature their company name and logo.

The names of all businesses that support the event will be displayed on the night.

Individual tickets to the gala ball, which kicks off at 6.30pm with a Prosecco reception, cost €65 each and include a four course meal, casino fun, goodie bags and spot prizes.
