Decrease in the numbers signing on

THERE WAS a decrease of 445 in the numbers signing on the live register in August in the four social welfare offices in Tallaght, Nutgrove, Clondalkin and Ballyfermot, reports Brendan Grehan.

In Tallaght, the total signing on fell from 5,523 in July to 5,344 in August,  a decrease of 179.

Among the under-25s there was an increase of 12 with 693 signing on in July and 705 signing on in August.

In Nutgrove, there was a decrease of 126 with 2,502 signing on in July and 2,376  signing on in August.

Among the under-25s, the live register was up by 22 with 116 signing on in July and 138 in August.

In Ballyfermot, there was a decrease of 95 with 1,805 signing on in July and 1,710 signing on in August.

Among the under-25s there was a decrease of 19 with 284 signing on in July and 265 signing on in August.

Finally in Clondalkin, the numbers were down by 45 with 3,573 signing on in July and 3,528 signing on in August.

Among the under-25s, the numbers up by eight with 390 signing on in July and 398 signing on in August.

Nationally, on a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 1,500 (-0.8 per cent ) in August 2019, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 188,500.

The number of persons on the Live Register in August 2019 is the lowest number recorded in the seasonally adjusted series since February 2008.

In unadjusted terms there were 199,093 persons signing on the Live Register in August 2019.

This represents an annual decrease of 26,065 (-11.6 per cent ) since August 2018.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register showed a monthly decrease of 500 (-0.5 per cent ) for males in August 2019, while females decreased by 1,100 (-1.3 per cent ) over the same period.

On an unadjusted basis, the number of male claimants decreased by 15,505 (-12.6 per cent) to 107,849 in the year to August 2019, while female claimants decreased by 10,560 (-10.4 per cent) to 91,244.
