A father accused of cruelty to his daughter has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court.

The 41-year-old appeared on bail before Judge Patricia McNamara in Tallaght Court.

Tallaght Court June 2016

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, and who has an address in South Dublin, is charged with two counts of allowing his daughter to be assaulted, ill-treated or neglected in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering at his home address on dates between September and December 2007 and January and August 2008.

A solicitor for the DPP told Judge McNamara that the book of evidence was ready to be served.

He said the DPP had consented for the man to be sent forward for trial to the present sittings of Dublin Circuit Court. Judge McNamara issued the man with the formal alibi caution and certified for a solicitor and one junior counsel on legal aid.

She ordered that a dvd recording of evidence, which will be played during the trial be given to the defence legal team.

She sent the man on bail to the present sittings of the Circuit Court.
