STUDENTS from Gaelscoil Chluain Dolcáin created miniature models of key buildings synonymous with the Easter Rising – which form part of a creative art exhibition currently on display at Áras Chrónáin.

Small-scale models of the GPO, Jacobs Factory, Liberty Hall, City Hall, and other buildings, were created by students at the Clondalkin primary school to mark the 2016 centenary programme.

Artist Fergal McCarthy’s animated cartoon strip ‘A Country is Born’ is also on display at the exhibition.

McCarthy translated his cartoon strip into Gaeilge for the exhibition at the Irish cultural centre on Watery Lane.

His drawings and texts were recently published in The Irish Times, and depict the Easter Rising in chronological order, with a witty and energetic portrayal of key events.

He said he distilled his knowledge of the Rising into a “spirited” take, in an attempt to “demystify” the event by “relieving it of some of its baggage.”

Humour is a constant theme in his work – McCarthy’s playful style is perhaps best known for his large-scale public art installations on the Liffey.

A Country is Born is also published as a book, and is on display at the Little Museum, St Stephens Green, until April 24.
