Memorial outing for Morgan a great success

By Brendan Grehan

THE MORGAN Donaldson Memorial Golf Day, organised by Castle Golf Club, Rathfarnham, on Thursday, July 26, saw 200 golfers turn out on the greens to honour the memory of Morgan Donaldson.

Morgan was a valued and well-liked member of Castle’s ground staff who tragically lost his life whilst working on the course on June 26 last.

In the intervening weeks, staff at Castle Golf Club worked tirelessly to organise a golf tournament that would give those that knew Morgan and worked with him over the years a chance to gather together and also raise funds for Morgan’s family in the wake of the tragedy.

From early morning it became evident just how popular Morgan was as a grand total of 48 fourballs took part in the day’s competition.

There was great support for the event from countless Castle members, including both Captain and Lady Captain and many former captains of the club.

As Morgan was also a former employee of Grange Golf Club and a long-time member of the Grange Artisans, there was also a large contingent from the neighbouring course in attendance throughout the day.

With sponsors for the event coming in thick and fast for weeks before the day, it was no surprise that players were greeted at each tee-box by four and sometimes five sponsor’s placards.

A poignant floral tribute where Morgan lost his life on the picturesque 7th hole kept Morgan firmly in the thoughts of everyone that past that spot. With glorious weather from dawn till dusk, the day was a fantastic success and enjoyed by all.
