Salon at cutting edge for national awards

By Maurice Garvey

ESTABLISHED just over three years ago, a small Tallaght hair salon will compete against industry heavyweights on the national stage, after being nominated for the Irish Hair and Beauty Awards 2018.

Elaine Bailey, owner of Spirit Hair Studio in Killinarden Enterprise Centre, said she was “shocked” to discover their nomination, but delighted at the recognition for her business, which employs a staff of six.

“It’s wonderful, and it means we are an award-winning salon because the nomination was down to public vote,” said Elaine, a Firhouse resident.

“A lot of our customers voted for us. We get clients from everywhere, from Templeogue and a lot come up from the country.”

“It’s amazing that we are only a small salon from Tallaght up against big companies. Judges will decide the winners on the night, with marketing and business supports among the prizes available.”

With 20 years experience in the industry, including working in high-end salons in the Westbury, Elaine wanted to bring a city-style salon closer to home, which led to the opening of Spirit Hair Studio.

Despite the salon’s success, she still feels she has more work to do, and plans to open an academy at some point in the future.

Elaine continued: “We are a hair destination in Spirit Hair Studio. A big thing for us is education. I am currently doing a Masters in Hairdressing, having just completed a science degree in Crumlin College. The plan is to open a hairdressing academy.”

Spirit Hair Studio is located beside Final Touch Beauty Room, making it an attractive one-stop beauty destination.

Proving popular at Spirit is the Olaplex treatment – a scientific solution to transform broken/brittle hair, according to Elaine.

“It’s revolutionised hair,” she said. “It’s like botox for hair. It gives you extra layers and causes zero damage.”

The Irish Hair and Beauty Awards 2018 take place in the Crowne Plaza, Santry, on September 9.
