Students from the activity learning programme Sportivate had their graduation ceremony in the South County Dublin Council Chambers.

Mayor of South Dublin County Council Mark Ward congratulated all students on the night and presented their certificates of completion and QQI level 4 Sport & Recreation Major Award, together with many certificates achieved over the academic year for coaching modules in the different sports.

Councillor Charlie O’Connor, Alison Casserly, Sport Development Officer from South Dublin County Council, Aisling Crowley Youth & Sport Development Officer and Roisin McLindon, Youth Officer from the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board were also in attendance, together with all the students and their families and friends.

Many of the tutors from the course dropped in to show their support as they felt it was a great achievement for the students involved to have reached their goals and move on to further studies.

Coordinator Máirín Uí Riain reminded the graduates how far they had come since September ’17 and that they should be very proud of themselves for what they have achieved.

She encouraged them to keep setting and following their goals.

Tallaght Leisure Centre and Scoil Aoife were also thanked for their support throughout the year, as well as the many tutors and workshop facilitators, some of whom joined in the celebration.

Sportivate, which is a collaboration between South Dublin County Council, and the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board, with support from Sport Ireland, will start again at the end of September 2018 with a new set of students.

Modules will include wall climbing, swimming, soccer, badminton, health-related fitness as well as communications, personal effectiveness and work experience and computer skills. Coordinator this year will be Darren Bruton.
