Tallafest 2019 replica tram shows heritage in true style

By Aideen O'Flaherty

THIS year’s Tallafest is on track to be an exciting event with the addition of a tram, which is to be situated outside Molloys on Main Street in Tallaght village, 87 years after the final tram from Terenure ran through Tallaght village up to Blessington.

The 100-year-old replica tram has been secured by Tallaght Community Council (TCC), the organisers of Tallafest, in conjunction with the volunteers in the National Transport Museum in Howth.

There will be a replica tram in Tallaght village outside Molloys on Main Street

The voluntary community group had previously tried to secure the tram for Tallafest 2018, but were beaten to the punch by Áras an Uachtaráin as the President had booked the tram for his garden parties for the entire month of June.

Tara De Buitléar from TCC said: “We are so proud of securing this static display at Tallafest 2019, against stiff competition from Áras an Uachtaráin.

“It will have pride of place at Tallafest this year – embodying our goal to celebrate Tallaght’s heritage.

“It promises to be an exciting photo opportunity for the family, so make sure you get down to see the tram on the day.”

John Kelleher, the volunteer chairman of the National Transport Museum, will be on hand on the day with his volunteer colleagues to answer any questions you might have about the replica tram.

Tallafest will take place in Tallaght village on Saturday, June 22, where there will be lots of fun for all the family.
