The teenager appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara in custody.

Tallaght Court June 2016

The teenager, who has an address in Tallaght, is charged with stealing newspapers worth €200 from a petrol station in Rathfarnham on September 23, 2017.

The teenager’s mother was present in court.

His solicitor, Michael Hennessy, told Judge McNamara: “He’s had a big shock. He has spent a night in custody.”

Mr Hennessy said his client was pleading guilty to the matter.

Garda Dara Kelly told the court that at 8.40am on September 23 last, the teenager and three other males approached the petrol station.

He said the teenager was later identified on cctv taking four bundles of newspapers from outside the petrol station. Garda Kelly said he later called to the teenager’s house.

He said the teenager and the three other males were asleep in the house.

Garda Kelly said he found the newspapers hidden in a lane behind the house.

He said that he did not want to arrest the teenager at the time as it would have involved bringing his mother down to the station.

Mr Hennessy asked the judge to remand the case for a probation report. Garda Kelly asked the judge to set additional conditions to the curfew that the teenager is currently under.

Judge McNamara released the teenager on his own bail of €100 and that he observes a curfew at his home from 7pm to 8am each day except for Thursdays and Fridays when it is from 9.45pm to 8am.

She also added as a condition that he stay away from three named males.

She remanded him for one week for a probation report.
