Warning on bogus waste collectors

SOUTH Dublin County Council have warned residents of a bogus waste collector service.

In a public post, SDCC stated they have been made aware of an individual advertising waste collection services on a buy/sell page.

The local authority says the individual claims to dispose of the waste in Ballymount Recycling Centre.

SDCC said: “Ballymount Civic Amenity does not accept waste from waste collection permit holders and under the Waste Management Act 1996, as amended it is an offence to collect waste without a valid waste collection permit.

“It is also a criminal offence for householders to give waste to bogus waste collectors which can lead to financial penalties and or 12 months imprisonment.”

SDCC requests residents report any planned illegal waste collections in their communities to the Environment Section for investigation and advises people not to leave waste out for collection by unauthorised waste collectors.
