Qantas Chief Exec and Tallaght native Alan Joyce hit with pie while on stage

Tallaght native and Qantas Chief Executive Alan Joyce was left shocked after he was hit in the face with a pie during a business breakfast in Australia earlier today.

Joyce is the head of the Australian airline, and was discussing the company’s recent decision to operate non-stop flights from London to Perth.

As he addressed the audience a man appeared to his right before pushing a pie into his face.

The man was detained by security, and police confirmed he was being interviewed in custody.

Moments after the incident Mr Joyce said, “I don’t know what that was about, I might take a break and clean myself up”.

Mr Joyce started his aviation career with Aer Lingus in 1988 before moving to Australia in 1996, where he initially worked with Ansett Airlines.

He started out with Qantas in the year 2000 and was appointed the first CEO of their low cost subsidiary Jetstar.

He was appointed CEO of the parent company in 2008 and in recent years he has successfully led the transformation of the airline.
