SOUTH Dublin Chamber led a recent trade mission to Scotland (April 3-5) to assess the Brexit landscape for doing business in the UK.

Over 40 delegates from Ireland visited Scotland as part of a three-day project set up to support bi-lateral trade in the midst of Brexit.

The delegates from Ireland included South Dublin Chamber, County Kildare Chamber, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber, Fingal Dublin Chamber and Údaras na Gaeltachta, the regional authority responsible for the economic, social and cultural development of the Gaeltacht.

Peter Byrne, CEO South Dublin Chamber, believed the trade mission provided the “perfect opportunity to see the new conditions for doing business in the UK.”

The trade mission to Scotland took in visits to John Bean Technologies, Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning, and a networking reception in Edinburgh Castle.

Dr Liz Cameron, director and chief executive, of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said the event was aimed at building new links.

“Extending trade relationships is increasingly important for businesses, particularly when Brexit has caused so much uncertainty.

“This business alliance with Ireland builds on the shared economic ambitions, culture and history between our two countries. These series of events offer a valuable resource for SMEs to connect and expand their international B2B partnerships.

“The response from business owners and leaders has been outstanding, firmly showing that both Scotland and Ireland are open for business.”
