Civic Child Project - Auditions for project start in may

AUDITIONS for ten places in a new theatre project aimed at creating shows for age-groups younger than five will take place in the Civic Theatre in May.

In association with the Civic Theatre and funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, Irish-based artist Anna Newell will lead the project. Newell has been creating theatre for the very young for years, of which many have been showcased in South Africa, off-Broadway and all over the UK and Ireland. Last year she created the hugely successful show for babies, ‘I AM BABA’.

LIFE Theatre for the very young

The project aims to create shows for age-groups younger than five

The project will run for two weeks during working hours between 20th-31st August. All participants need to be available for the full duration.

Auditions will take place during the day on Monday 28th May. These auditions will not require any preparation and will be 1-2 hours of informal group sessions involving a range of drama games and exercises. Previous experience of some form of performance - theatre, dance, music - is essential.

Training is provided free of charge and participants will receive a €10 daily stipend to cover food and travel costs. Applicants must be aged 17 years or over.

Should potential participants not be available for this audition date, it may be possible to make other arrangements.

The ten days of the project are expected to be intensive, and will involve exploring strategies for creating work for babies, inventing ideas for projects for all ages of early years and starting to create short “works-in-progress” inspired by these ideas.

At several stages during the project, babies and younger children will be invited in so that these ideas can be tried out on their potential audience. As a result, all participants will be Garda Vetted prior to the project and participation will be strictly dependent on successful completion of this.

If you’re passionate about theatre, want to explore this very particular audience and can commit two weeks full-time in August 2018, you’re advised to apply now.

The deadline for applications is Monday 14th May. For details on how to apply see civictheatre.ie or call 01 4627477.
