The students were given a tour of the John G Sisk Training Centre, at the company’s head office on the Naas Road.

Current Sisk carpentry and joinery apprentices delivered a presentation to students, including former Moyle Park student Aaron Gaffney.

Meanwhile, Sisk apprentice, Sean Carter, former pupil of Holy Family Secondary School, Rathcoole spoke about his experience of representing Sisk at the recent Ireland Skills Live event at the RDS, where he finished overall runner-up in the joinery competition.

Dave Tracey, Sisk Training Centre Manager said: “Sisk have built a unique reputation of training apprentices not just for Sisk but for the industry at large. Our best apprentices from the beginning have the right attitude, which is willing to learn, being on time, good work ethic, energy, put in that extra mile and have the passion to follow their goals.

“In Sisk, our apprentices become our next generation site managers with second and third family generations part of our business coming from apprenticeship, while many others opt to travel the world with their qualification.”

The John G Sisk Training Centre and joinery works has supplied a full range of joinery to projects including, the new grandstand at The Curragh Racecourse, The National Convention Centre, Aviva Stadium and the Grand Canal Theatre.

Every December, Sisk apprentices give their time and energy to build traditional wooden toys for the distribution to hospitals, schools, homes and orphanages.
