DFB help Tallaght family deliver baby Aubrey just in time for Christmas

A Tallaght family had an early Christmas present yesterday morning when their daughter arrived somewhat unexpectedly, in the back of an ambulance while on its way to the Coombe Hospital.

Little Aubrey, weighing just six pounds and seven and a half ounces, could not wait any longer to enter the world, and Dublin Fire Brigade firefighters based in Nutgrove, who are also trained as paramedics, were on hand to help with the delivery.

DFB's Niall Bergin from Tallaght was one of those who helped deliver baby Aubrey safely, along with Sarah Good who lives in Wicklow.

Speaking about the arrival of baby Aubrey, Sarah said: “Well done to an incredibly brave Mum (and Dad!) who I'm sure didn't have an ambulance delivery featuring in their birth plan!

“And a huge congratulations to them on the birth of their beautiful daughter Aubrey. Well done Mum! You were absolutely fantastic.

“We are occasionally privileged to be in a position to assist with out of hospital childbirth but full credit to very brave parents.

“Wonderful outcome and super assistance from our colleagues in An Garda Siochana.”

Meanwhile, Aubrey’s dad Michael said: “I'd like to thank these guys very, very much for what they did for us last night, if it was not for them I don't no where we would be now.

“They handled everything 100 per-cent and  we cannot thank them enough, they are very special people with hearts of gold.

“I'm still in shock to what unfolded and I would like to wish these pair a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“This story will never leave us.”
