Dubliner plans to spend €500k Lotto win on 'a house to call my own'

A LUCKY Dubliner who bought a winning €500,000 Euromillions Quick Pick ticket at the Mace store in Perrystown picked up his cheque at National Lottery HQ today.

According to a spokesperson for National Lottery, the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was completely unaware of the size of his EuroMillions Plus prize despite checking his ticket the day after the draw.

“I absolutely had no clue I was sitting on a ticket worth a half million euro”, the man said when collecting his €500k cheque.

“I scanned the ticket on my phone the following day and a message came up to congratulate me to tell me I had won a prize but it didn’t say how much.

“I just assumed it might have been €2,000 or so which I was obviously delighted with.

“I called up the National Lottery the following Monday and I got the shock of my life when I was told that I had won the €500,000.

“It was just an incredible feeling.”

As the reality of his win sinks in, the Dubliner said that he hopes to spend his winnings on a home alongside sharing it with family.

“All I want from this win is a house to call my own”, he said.

“To have a house, mortgage free is even better.

“I am going to spend a little bit of time shopping around but hopefully I’ll be moving into my dream home in the next few months.

“Whatever is left from my win, I’ll be sharing it with my family.

“They’ve always been there for me so it’s very important to share this with them.”

Almost 30 cent in every euro spent on National Lottery games goes back to good causes all over Ireland in the areas of sport, health, arts, culture, heritage, youth, community and the Irish language.

Last year more than €227 million was raised for good causes, the equivalent of €620,000 a day.
