A man has appeared in court this morning charged in connection with the seizure of €4million worth of cannabis herb last Friday on the N4 inbound at Lucan.

James Manning appeared before Judge David McHugh in custody in Blanchardstown District Court.

Blanch Courthouse 4

Manning, aged 48, with an address at Belclare Avenue, Ballymun, is charged with simple possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis for sale or supply and possession of cannabis for sale or supply with a value of €13,000 or more at the N4, Lucan, on December 1, 2017.

Garda Thomas Barrett told Judge McHugh that he arrested Manning in Lucan Garda station at 2.35pm on Sunday, December 3 last.

He said Manning was later charged with three offences at 2.50pm by Sergeant Paul Moran.

Garda Barrett said Moran made no reply to the three charges.

In response to Judge McHugh, Manning’s solicitor, Michael Finucane, told the judge that he was making no application for bail. Mr Finucane said he was making an application for legal aid. Garda Barrett said he was objecting to the application as an investigation was being carried out into Manning’s finances.

Noting the objection from the state, Judge McHugh made no order on the legal aid application.

He remanded Manning in custody to appear before Cloverhill District court on Thursday, December 7 next.
