Sergeant Michael Ahern told Judge Patricia McNamara that on March 23 last, the gardai were called to Kilcarrig Green where Bolger was standing in the street and was shouting obscenities.

Sgt Ahern said Bolger told the gardai to “f**k off” and continued to shout obscenities.

He said that Bolger was arrested and threatened Gardas Ward and Donaghy and threatened Garda Molloy as he was being brought back to the station.

Sgt Ahern said Bolger had 12 previous convictions.

Bolger’s counsel, George Burns Bl, said his client had been sleeping rough. He said Bolger had no recollection of the incident.

Asked about the threats by Judge McNamara, Sgt Ahern said they were not at the high end of the scale.

Judge McNamara sentenced Bolger to six months jail, suspended for 12 months for breaching the peace and to 150 hours community service with six months jail in default for one of the threat charges.

The remaining charges were taken into consideration.
