Porter “categorically denies allegation of criminal wrongdoing"

AL PORTER “categorically denies” an allegation that he inappropriately touched a patient in St Patrick’s Mental Health Services, a legal representative for the Tallaght comedian has said.

Last November, the Irish edition of the Sunday Times published a story in which a former patient of St Patrick’s Hospital on James’s Street made allegations against Mr Porter.

The allegations related to a visit Mr Porter paid to the hospital in October 2015.

The patient, a student in his mid-20s who has since been discharged, has alleged Mr Porter touch him inappropriately.

After the publication of the story by the Sunday Times in November, St Patrick’s Mental Health Services said it had received no complaints by staff or service users relating to Mr Porter, and it encouraged anyone with any such complaints to contact them and gardaí.

In an updated statement a couple of days later, St Patrick’s Mental Health Services said that since issuing its original press release that they had received such a complaint – and were “investigating the complaint in line with its policies and procedures”.

In a statement sent today (Monday 29) to Echo.ie, a representative for Al Porter said that the comedian is and will continue co-operating fully with any inquiry by St Patrick’s as he “categorically denies the allegation of criminal wrongdoing”.

Mr Porter has instructed Michael Staines and company to represent him in relation to this allegation.
