Status Yellow rainfall warning in place from noon today

You can expect heavy rain later today as a Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place for much of the country.

The expected shift in the weather is largely down to the Hurricane Gert, which has been making its way eastwards since last week.

Thankfully Ireland will only feel the very tailend of the storm, with the warning coming into effect from 12 noon today until 4pm on Monday.

The warm and humid conditions will develop throughout this afternoon, and that will bring heavy rain and up to 5cm of rain in certain places.

The warning covers counties including Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Wicklow, Louth, Offaly, Meath, Westmeath, Clare and Donegal.
