A DRIVER with 119 previous convictions including nine for no insurance who twice drove without a licence has been remanded by Tallaght Court to do a drivers awareness course.

Dean Ryan's solicitor, Michael Hennessy, told Judge Patricia McNamara that his client was very concerned about getting a driving ban.

Ryan, aged 25, with an address at Glenshane Green, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to having no driving licence at Cloonmore Park, Tallaght, on September 2, 2015, and at Hibernian Industrial Estate, Tallaght, on September 10, 2015.

Garda Aine McCarville said Ryan had 119 previous convictions of which 15 were for no driving licence, two were for driving while disqualified and nine were for no insurance.

Sergeant Michael Aherne said Ryan had received a two-year ban for no insurance at Tallaght Court on January 17, 2016.

Mr Hennessy said Ryan had received a number of letters from the Road Safety Agency indicating that he received enough penalty points to put him off the road.

Mr Hennessy said that some of the letters seemed to be contradictory.

He said Ryan wants to work as a carpenter and is concerned that he might get a driving ban.

Mr Hennessy said Ryan would be willing to do the restorative justice services driving awareness course.

Judge McNamara said she thought it would be effective for Ryan to do the drivers awareness course.

She remanded him on continuing bail to a date in December for him to do the course.
