A MULTI-DENOMINATIONAL youth and drama group which is in based in St Mary’s Priory in Tallaght are gearing up for their four-night run of ‘The Witness’, a musical which tells the story of the Passion from the perspective of Peter the Apostle.

The Now and Then Production Company was set up in 1991, and after an eight year hiatus from 2004 to 2012, the drama group came back with aplomb and have been performing ever since, with ‘The Witness’ being their latest show.

The cast, who range in age from 12 to 75-years-old, are currently perfecting their performance in rehearsals ahead of their opening night on Tuesday, March 20.

Orla Griffin from Then and Now told The Echo: “Every year we run a show about the Passion, and ‘The Witness’ is a show that we did many years ago.

“The music in it is beautiful, and it’s a tried-and-tested musical that we enjoyed performing when we did it before.”

The musical is a community effort, with everyone involved working both behind the scenes and on the stage on a voluntary basis, and although the group performs plays that centre on religious themes, everyone is welcome to attend.

Orla added: “We started out as a religious group, but now it’s more about the community, bringing people together and spreading the word of the Gospel.

“People of all creeds are welcome, whether they’re into religion or not – there’s no push on you to be religious.

“We just want people to come along and enjoy the performance.”

The group also incorporates fundraising for local charities as an important part of their shows.

This year, the proceeds from the opening night of ‘The Witness’ will be donated to the Saoirse Women’s Refuge.

‘The Witness’ will be on each night in St Mary’s Priory from Tuesday, March 20, to Friday, March 23, with doors opening at 7.30pm and the performance beginning at 8pm sharp.

Tickets are €12 or €7 concession, and they’re available on the door or online from
