Westside Performing Arts - Platinum Anniversary celebrated in style

By William O'Connor

AFTER 20 years at the heart of Lucan, Westside Performing Arts marked their Platinum anniversary in style at The Palmerstown House Estate, Johnstown, County Kildare with a Black-Tie Ball on Friday, May 4.

With over 160 students and staff it was an evening of glamour, shared memories and dancing. With each menu bearing the quote ‘Dreams and Dedication are a powerful combination’ it was certainly the motif of the evening.

As everyone gathered for dinner there were messages and memories shared from around the world, by students, teachers and parents, both past and present all wanting to show their appreciation for their ‘Westside Family’.

Messages from LA, London, Texas, Canada and Dublin to name but a few locations all had a common theme, Westside was a place they called ‘a home from home’, ‘a family’, ‘allowed them the safe space to break out of their shell’, ‘a place where the training and memories they gained shaped them as people’.

Westside first opened its doors at Lucan’s Church of Ireland Parish Centre in 1998 and has never looked back.

It now also operates from a second location The Westside Studios in Griffeen Valley Educate Together.

In both locations Westside continues to nurture young people to excel and reach their full potential, encourage them as they follow their dreams and enable them to become more confident beings.

What Westside develop is not unique to the Performing Arts, they are skills that will extend long into their Students lifetimes. And this was made clear from the countless video messages shown at the ball. Westside’s Artistic Director Elizabeth Ennis attributes the success of the school to three simple keywords that form its foundation; Aspiration, Inspiration and Dedication.
