20,000 to take part in Dublin City Marathon

THE SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon will hit the ground running this Sunday - and with 20,000 participants, 1,000 volunteers and crowds of spectators heading town-ward there’s a number of traffic restrictions in place, reports Mary Dennehy.

The 39th Dublin Marathon is taking to the capital’s street this Sunday, October 28, with a host of locals taking part – including County Mayor Mark Ward, the Tighe family (Daniel’s Voyage) and James Casserly (Team James).

Starting at Fitzwilliam Street Upper at 8.55am, the 26 mile race will finish in Merrion Square North around 5pm.

While a number of city centre streets are closed from 4am on Sunday right through the day, locally some roads will experience route closures for periods of time during race day.

Some of the roads that will be affected by route closures include Chapelizod Gate (9am to 1pm), Chapelizod Road (9am to 1pm), St Laurences Road (9.15am to 12.45pm), Sarsfield Road (9.15am to 12.45pm), Crumlin Road (9am to 2pm), Walkinstown Road (9.15am to 2pm), Cromwellsfort Road (9.30am to 2.45pm), Fortfield Road (9.30am to 2.30pm), Terenure Road East (9.45am to 2.50pm) and Orwell Park (9.15am to 3.30pm).

A number of roads will also be under Garda traffic control including Inchicore Road, Drimnagh Road and Templeogue Road.
