Brennan earns his place in Young Riders Nations Cup

YOUNG up and coming showjumper Cornelius Brennan is poised to com-pete in his most exclusive tournament to date.

The 15-year-old Tallaght competitor will take part in the Young Riders Nations Cup in Holland having greatly impressed Belgian-based horse breeder and trainer Enda Carroll.

Tallaght’s Cornelius Brennan has been in impressive form.

Indeed Brennan recently travelled out to Spain with Carroll as part of his transition-year work experience, initially intending to spend two weeks there at an inter-national show jumping event in Olivia Nova.

Coming towards the end of his fortnight Carroll requested that Brennan remain on for the finish of the show as he was working out so well.

Following the end of the competition, he travelled with the staff of Carroll’s stud farm, Ashford Farms, back to Belgium and again Carroll asked if he could remain on in order to compete at this week’s Young Riders Nations Cup.

Brennan has been show jumping since the tender age of five and even managed to qualify on his pony for the Dublin Horse Show back in 2017.

That same year he finished fifth in the National Pony Championships in Kildare.

While he is still eligible to ride ponies up until the end of 2019, he transitioned to horses a year earlier than he needed to.

Since 2016, he has been training under one of the greats of Irish show jumping Jack Doyle, who contested the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.

“Our family has always been interested in horses, but Cornelius took to it a whole new level” said Brennan’s father Nelius.
