Galvin glee in Croker

By Stephen Leonard

BISHOP Galvin ended an eight-year wait for a school hurling title with a hard-fought 4-10 to 2-10 victory over a resilient and brave Bayside team.

While the Templeogue school boasted strong dis-plays all over the pitch, at the heart of their Corn Marino win was an incred-ible individual display by Liam Mostyn who accounted for 2-10 overall.

Indeed the Faughs clubman hit scores from all angles on the day and was certainly at home in the wonderful arena that is Croke Park.

Unbeaten throughout their entire campaign this season, Bishop Galvin got off to a blistering start in the final with goals from Mostyn (2), Liam Kane and Cian Langan handing them a substantial lead before a retort from Bayside saw the gap reduced to three by half-time.

Mostyn struck no less than nine points in the second period from play and placed balls as his side took a strong grip on this title decider.

Cathal Gough, Michael Lawlor in midfield and Paddy Fitzgerald at full back as well as goalkeeper Conor Durkan performed very well in what was an all-round team effort that secured their most prestigious accolade since 1994.

“I knew the lads had it in them and they performed to their potential with the top players really delivering” said Bishop Galvin coach John Madigan.

“The subs that came on also did very well, so it was really a great all-round performance by the entire team” he added.
