Haringey Box Cup gold for McLoughlin

KELLIE McLoughlin was one of two Irish boxers who won gold at the Haringey Box Cup in London.

The Drimnagh Boxing club star travelled to the event as part of the 10-strong Irish Athletic Third- level Boxing Association (IATBA) team and lined out in the 54kg division.

Representing Inchicore College of Further Education, McLoughlin served up a superb performance in her semi final, seeing off Bianca Haynes of London Community Boxing Team.

And she did it again in the title bout in which she used her reach to good effect, forcing her opponent Zoe Koh of Box-Club Basel to settle for the runner-up up spot.

Indeed the Drimnagh BC competitor produced some great footwork and precision boxing to secure the gold along with compatriot Christina Desmond (75kg).
