Local success in Under 15 Shield Finals

By Hayden Moore

THERE was an abundance of Under 15 Hurling Shield success for local clubs as Ballyboden St Enda’s, Commercials and Lucan Sarsfields all claimed their respective titles.

Boden zipped into the driving seat against Faughs in the ‘A’ Shield Final where they remained for the rest of the game, winning out 4-8 to 2-11 in Tymon North on Sunday morning.

Ballyboden surmounted neighbours Faughs in the ‘A’ Shield decider.

Goals from corner forward Darragh Brooks and midfielder Leon Kennedy propelled Emmet Pullan’s outfit into a comfortable 2-7 to 0-5 lead.

After the break the conditions deteriorated with the Templeogue side beginning to chip away at Ballyboden’s lead, but they stayed firm with Keelin Smith, Oisin Byrne and Kennedy pointing.

Centre forward John Farrington bagged Boden’s third and mustered up an equaliser with just a minute left on the clock.

However, a long distance free from Kennedy dropped short into the palm of Brooks, who spun on his heel and slammed the sliotar into the net with the final puck of the match.

Commercials had to bring their A-game as they duked it out with Thomas Davis in the ‘B’ Shield Final, winning 5-12 to 3-8 in Rathcoole on Sunday.

Commercials saw off the challenge of Thomas Davis in the ‘B’ Shield.

After flying past O’Toole’s and Craobh Chiarain in earlier rounds, Commercials were pushed to the wire by their Kiltipper rivals in the final.

Harry Strumble and captain Diarmaid Ó Dúlaing, who finished runner-up in the Jim Boggins Skills Tournament earlier this year, combined to register 0-8 between them.

Despite conceding three goals, Niall Lawless, James O’Leary and Michael Hickey put on classy display in defence for the Collegeland lads.

Goals from Daniel Magilozzi, Darragh Brady and Jack Kenny’s 1-2 was enough to see them to the silverware in the end .

Lucan Sarsfields captured the ‘C’ Shield in style against Kevins with a goal from Tommy Mulhall the difference as they won 4-9 to 3-9 in the 12th Lock on Sunday.

Lucan Sarsfields captured the ‘C’ Shield after beating Kevins.

Much like St Enda’s did in their game, Lucan also raced into an early lead when corner forward Eoin Conheady netted with the first score of the tie.

The Crumlin Road boys did pull a goal back, but wing forward Roghan Withero matched it with Lucan’s second when he blasted the ball to the net from 20 metres.

Having gone into the break 2-5 to 1-4 down, Kevins came racing out of the blocks with three unanswered points to cut the deficit to just a point.

Sarsfields’ Mulhall, who tallied four points, widened the margin before Kevins rattled the net in quick succession.

Whatever Kevins did, Lucan went one better as they too goaled twice in succession.

Substitute Sean Langston got his side’s third to equalise by pulling on a loose ball in the box before Mulhall’s strike clinched the Shield for Lucan.
