Lucan’s Conor Masterson in Liverpool Champion’s League squad

By Sean Heffernan

FORMER Lucan United defender Conor Masterson is set to take his place on the bench tonight for Liverpool as they take on Manchester City in their Champions League quarter-final match at Anfield.

The Lucan lad was signed by Liverpool aged 13, in a €1M deal in 2014, and his career has been on the up and up ever since.

Since making his international debut at Under-15 level, Masterson has been a constant presence in the green jersey, having played ten times for Ireland Under-17’s, and upon moving up again to Under-19’s, where he has played in all ten games for Tom Mohan’s side since his elevation.

With a number of key defenders, including Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez injured, Masterson - who is a regular for Liverpool Under-23 side - has been promoted to the first team bench, and could very well feature against Pep Guardiola’s superstars.

This will not be the last we hear of the versatile former Lucan United player, that’s for sure.
