McGrath and Trant take All-Star awards

THOMAS Davis defender Siobhan McGrath picked up her third All-Star award at the TG4 All-Star Gala event in Citywest Hotel on Saturday night.

The talented Davis defender, who was one of seven Dublin players to scoop an award, was solid throughout the season for the Blues as they successfully defended their All-Ireland crown.

Newcastle girl Ciara Trant secured her second All-Star in goal in what was another impressive season from the St Brigid’s player.

Dublin’s haul equals an all-time best on an All-Star team selection as the 2010 and 2016 selections each contained six Sky Blues.

Dublin’s Sinéad Aherne was named as the 2018 TG4 Senior Players’ Player of the Year at the annual All Star banquet with the talented forward guiding the Dubs to the Brendan Martin trophy.

It was the third successive year that Aherne had been nominated for the Senior Players’ Player of the Year award.

Meanwhile, Round Tower member and former Waterford star Marie Crotty said that “it’s “a massive honour” to be inducted into the Ladies Gaelic Football Association Hall of Fame.

Crotty, renowned as one of the greatest players ever to hail from county Waterford and is now coaching with the Clondalkin club.

In 2018, Crotty also worked with the Dublin Under 16 team and she is renowned as a selfless volunteer who has worked at many national LGFA events, including the All-Ireland Club 7s, National Development Academy Days and the Gaelic4Mothers&Others Blitz Day.

She said: “It’s a massive honour, to get an award for something you love being part of.

“There are no words to describe it – I never thought I’d be anywhere in that category.”

Marie was joined at the Citywest Hotel by her husband Cathal, and son Dylan. Marie’s parents, John and Ann along with former Waterford coach Michael Ryan, and his wife Kate.
