New KICK initiative is on the rise in Red Rhino

By Stephen Leonard

RED RHINO Kickboxing Club is gearing up for its third cycle of the KICK (Kickboxing to Inspire and Challenge Kids) initiative and has certainly helped make it a success.

Run in conjunction with the South Dublin County Partnership, the 12-week programme introduces young teenagers to pro-social activities in a fun and structured way through the medium of kickboxing.

Funded through SICAP and the IPB Insurance Community Engagement Fund, KICK was developed in response to a growing need in South West Dublin for an innovative programme that addresses rising levels in obesity in teens, the ever-growing instances of teenagers reporting mental health issues and the high levels of anti-social behaviour and aggression among teens.

“All the kids love it and it promotes physical, mental and emotional strength across the board,” said Red Rhino Kickboxing Coach Karl Flynn.

“Together with the South Dublin County Partnership, it’s been one of our club’s most prideful accomplishments,” he added.

Following a highly successful launch in 2016, the KICK programme is currently recruiting for its first class of 2017.

Indeed the next FREE 12-week programme for 13 to 17-year-olds starts Wednesday, February 15. Contact Joy O’Shaughnessy on 087 9808856 or Karl Flynn on 087 0609847 to sign up.
