GYMSTARS Gymnastics Lucan saw their Junior and Senior Display teams perform superbly at ‘The Floor’ – Gymnastics Ireland’s National Showcase Event at the National Sports Arena.

DONORE Harriers’ team of six athletes accounted for five medals, including three gold, one silver and one bronze, in the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships.

STEPHEN Ormond announced his retirement from professional boxing after he lost out to Craig Evans in his bid to win back the WBO European Lightweight strap.

BOTH Neilstown Boxing Club’s Winnie Christina McDonagh and Taylor Guiney of Drimnagh Boxing Club made the podium at the European Junior Championships, with the former being named The Echo Sports Star of the Month for June.

DEANSRATH enjoyed a huge amount of success in the Community Games National Table Tennis Finals with no less than four teams reaching the podium in the National Finals with Griffeen Valley Educate Together taking one gold and one silver.

THERE were mixed fortunes for local primary schools at the Cumann na mBunscol hurling finals in Croke Park, with Bishop Galvin, Scoil Treasa, Scoil Santain, Scoil Chrónáin, Divine Word, Scoil Mhuire Woodview, Gaelscoil Mológa, Gaelscoil Inse Chór, Griffeen Valley, Our Lady’s Ballinteer, St Colmcille’s, Divine Mercy and Scoil Mhuire Lucan all enjoying success over the two days.

OVER the DDSL cup finals weekend, Rathcoole Boys, Clondalkin Celtic, St John Bosco, Arthur Griffith Park, Lourdes Celtic and Kilnamanagh all lifted their respective cup while the DDSL squad lifted the New Balance Kennedy Cup for a 33rd time.

REPUBLIC of Ireland record goalscorer Robbie Keane was announced as the new assistant coach of Middlesbrough FC, joining his former Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur teammate Jonathan Woodgate.

JOHN Kelly made it a double gold at the inaugural IBJJF Irish National Championships.

SLADE Valley Golf Club became the first of 300-plus hopefuls to qualify for the final of the Staysure PGA Trophy, as Castle Golf Club’s Peter McKeever emerged winner from the 2019 Connacht Stroke Play Championship.

NEILSTOWN Boxing Club’s Joseph Hutchin-son was crowned champion for a fifth time at the National Champion-ships, while Tyler Meade of Hyland Boxing Academy, Nathan Ojo of Esker BC, the Olaniyan brothers, Stacey O’Connor and Sieana Fitzpatrick of Jobstown BC and Crumlin BC’s William Hayden and Karl Sheridan all won their respective titles too.

GLENVILLE pool team made it a double as they captured both the League and Champions League honours in the Dodder Valley Pool League.

SOUTH Dublin Taekwondo saw Lauren Farrell and Leroy Nsilu Dilandu get on the podium at the Luxembourg Open.

Ireland senior hockey star Shane O’Donoghue made history in Ireland’s 11-0 win against Singapore as the Knocklyon man’s hat-trick saw him become the first player to score 100 goals for his country.

THERE was a huge amount of local success at the Dublin Strokeplay Championships held in RGSC in Kingswood with Theresa King, Christine Mulvey, Glenda Hoey, Rob Berney and George McGreal emerged victorious in their respective competitions.

THE ANNUAL Tallaght and Garda Primary Schools Basketball tournament again proved a major success with 20 schools involved in this year’s event in the National Basketball Arena.

LARA O’Byrne’s victory in the National Junior Heptathlon at the Combined Events Cham-pionship was the highlight of another strong event for Donore Harriers Athletic Club.

SACRED Heart Boxing Club celebrated its 40th year in existence.

SHAMROCK Rovers Amputee Soccer team were named The Echo Team of the Month for June after they raised the Sean McCaffrey Foundation Cup in Monaghan before finishing runners-up to Bohemians in the FuBballiade 2019 in Munich, where they also later played Newcastle and FC Hoffenheim over six matches.

In her final game for Peamount United before moving to Bundesliga side Koln, Amber Barrett signed off on her spell with the Newcastle club with a hat-trick in a 9-0 win over Kilkenny City.

KURDISH-Iranian refugee and Thomas Davis hurler, Zak Moradi, made an impact off the bench in Leitrim’s 2-23 to 2-22 win over Lancashire in the fifth-tier All-Ireland competition, the Lory Meagher Cup.

Thomas Davis hurler Zak Moradi was a second-half substitute as Leitrim won their first-ever piece of senior silverware.

Jim Gavin’s Dublin became the first county to win nine provincial senior football titles in a row when they beat Meath while Mick Bohan’s Dublin beat Westmeath in the Leinster Ladies Senior Football Championship Final for a fifth year in a row.

South Dublin Taek-wondo’s Jack Woolley completed his maximum 40 Olympic Ranking points allowance for 2019 with bronze and gold medal wins in a double header of World Taekwondo ‘G2’ events in the Gold Coast, Australia.
