THE entertainment and amusement industry took a major hit during the recession, but one Clondalkin business diversified its talents to look after its customers and ensure punters flock through the doors.Qs Bingo 01
Q’s Snooker Hall on Old Nangor Road established bingo nights one month ago, and have seen the benefits already, with punters providing added spice to proceedings at the 18,000 square foot facility.
The building is an institution in the community at this stage, but perhaps not quite as old as the Round Tower.
Co-owners Jim McCann and Chris Keenan bought the snooker hall from its former owner in 1990, and provide a unique outlet for entertainment and amusements, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
A significant local employer, Q’s provide jobs for 35 people (full-time and part-time).
Mr McCann admits not many businesses offer a 24-hour service, but this sees customers arriving “from all over”, including Kildare and Wicklow, and of course easy access for local residents.
“The snooker takes a hit during the summer with people doing more outdoor activities, and going on holidays, so we decided take a section of the building, and use that for bingo nights,” said Mr McCann.
Providing subsidised buses to bring punters in from Bray and Ballyfermot has been an astute business move, whilst Q’s also gives bingo players free treats to keep them coming back for more.
Mr McCann continued: “You can’t rely on ability alone, or be arrogant, you have to treat your customers well.
“We get them free sandwiches on a Tuesday and free burgers on a Saturday from McDonalds. Last week, we got 150 burgers. We couldn’t do that every night, but there is free tea and coffee every night and ample free parking.”
Q’s Bingo starts every night at 7pm at Old Nangor Road.
