Griffith graduate gets top praise for her Aran photos

A photography collection by Griffith College graduate Julie Smyth has been selected to feature in the prestigious Source BA Graduate Photography Online collection for 2017.

Smyth, from Tallaght, was one of just 16 students shortlisted from across the UK and Ireland whose work was selected for the online exhibition.

The collection, Inis, documents the smallest of the Aran Islands, a location with a strong personal connection for Smyth through her grandmother’s birth there and memories of childhood holidays.

Sinead Murphy, Head of Photography at Griffith College, said “We are delighted for Julie, her success is well deserved. Inis is strong and simple in concept, and absolutely beautifully made.

"We aim to provide our students with the skills needed to succeed in their chosen career and I’m sure we’ll hear plenty more from Julie in the future.”
