MORE than 180 individuals, groups and businesses have been nominated for this year’s Tallaght Person of the Year Awards.

Year on year, the response from the community in nominating unsung heroes is growing – with 181 nominations received this year compared to 160 in 2018.

A diverse selection of nominees has been put forward for the awards ceremony, which takes place in the Red Cow Moran Hotel on Saturday, November 16.

Run by Tallaght Community Council (TCC), the awards recognise all that is great about Tallaght – and the individuals, groups, organisations, sports clubs and businesses that promote and enhance community development, spirit and pride.

Liz Kennedy, Chair of TCC and Production Manager with The Echo, said: “We received a bumper number of 181 nominees this year, and we have a new category, Learning and Innovation, with 12 nominations.

“Over 300 nominations were received in total for 181 nominees.

“The nominees come from across all areas of Tallaght with a hugely diverse number of organisations and individuals included.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate.

“Nominations make the awards possible, without nominations there are no awards.”

Tickets for the awards night are now on sale from the ticket box office in The Echo, on Main Road, Tallaght.

The box office will remain open until Friday, November 8.

Looking forward to the awards, Ms Kennedy said: “The awards are an opportunity to honour our local unsung heroes and groups.

“To win an award is great, but if you’ve been nominated, you are already a winner.

“It’s overwhelming and inspiring the amount of groups and individuals who are working for the good of the community.

“The awards night is a night to celebrate all that’s good in our town and a night to encourage people to keep going.”
