School’s Festive Jumper Day raises €230 for homeless

PUPILS from Knockmore Junior School in Killinarden showed their charitable spirit last week, when they handed over a cheque for €230 to Focus Ireland on Tuesday morning, to help homeless people in Tallaght.

The children held a Christmas Jumper Day last week, where they went to school in festive jumpers – some of the children also wore lights and decorations – in aid of Focus Ireland.

The school has a student council, and it decided that Focus Ireland would be the charity picked to benefit from the Christmas Jumper Day this year, as the money will be used to help homeless people who are in the local area.

Antoinette Jones, the school secretary for Knockmore Junior School, told The Echo: “We always do something at Christmas time for homeless people in the area. It’s just about trying to help people who are worse off.

“The children were delighted to see the cheque being handed over, and it also helps them to realise that there are children who are worse off too.”

The school also held a craft sale on Tuesday morning, where the children sold decorations they had made. A bake sale was also held to raise funds for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

The total figure for the amount of money raised for Our Lady’s hadn’t yet been counted at the time of going to print, however Ms Jones praised the parents of the schoolchildren for always generously donating to the school’s charitable endeavours.
