Sisters Joan (89) and Alice (88) turn greenhouse into tea room

By Aideen O'Flaherty

TWO cocooning sisters came up with a novel idea for passing the time while staying indoors – by turning their greenhouse into a tea room.

Joan Lacey (89) and Alice Kincaid (88) are cocooning together in Terenure, with their niece Geraldine Johnson, and after spending the first few weeks of lockdown working in their garden, they came up with the idea to turn their greenhouse into their own tea room.

“They had been working in the garden when the lockdown started, but then they came up with the idea of turning the greenhouse into a tea room,” explained their niece Geraldine.

“I think it was because of all the time they were spending indoors, that they wanted a little tea room. It makes the world of difference to them, and it keeps them going.

“They’re both very creative and they like to stay busy – they’re always looking for new ideas.”

The tea room gives the women a change of scenery, and a new environment in which to socialise with each other.

“It’s very cosy,” added Geraldine. “It’s been set up with little chairs and curtains and delph.”

The two ladies now regularly use their cocooning tea room, which offers them a safe space in which to enjoy their tea and is a testament to their creativity.
