TALLAGHT soccer teams will take to the pitch on June 22 in a bid to win the coveted Tallafest Shield – which will be played for on the day of the community festival.

The soccer blitz is run by Tallaght Community Council, organisers of Tallafest, in partnership with one of the area’s oldest and largest soccer clubs, Tallaght Town FC.

Now in its second year, the blitz will see eight teams (all under-11s) go head to head on the pitches of TU Dublin – Tallaght Campus.

According to Alan Merriman, Tallaght Town FC Chairman: “It is great to see the interest from all the teams who have registered to play at the blitz this year.

“They are all great clubs, nurturing talent and team work in the kids, and we look forward to watching all of the matches on the day.

“We wish all the teams the very best of luck.”

Kicking off at 10.30am on the day of Tallafest, June 22, the finals are expected to take place at 2.30pm, with the winner of the shield being announced at 3.30pm.

Tara De Buitléar, Tallafest organising committee said: “The soccer blitz took many weeks to organise and we thank Tallaght Town FC in taking the lead role in that.

“It promises to be a great day of competitive football and we urge as many families as possible to drop along and show your support for the U11s participating in the Tallafest blitz later this month.

“It is just a short walk past the main stage to the sports pitches.”

The winning side will be presented with their medals on the big stage on Main Street in the village.

Tallafest will take place on Saturday, June 22, in Tallaght village, from 12 noon to 5pm.

Some of the day’s highlights include a craft and food market, guided village heritage walk, vintage fire engines, a 100-year-old tram, the Big Dig, drumming circles, pop-up Gaeltacht, soft play area, dancing, science labs, baking competition, garden games, Lego and nature art classes.
