A father of two, “out of his mind” on a cocktail of drink and drugs when he smashed his head through a pane of glass in the front door of his girlfriend’s house, has been sentenced to 120 hours community service.

Walsh, aged 27, with an address at Rossfield Drive, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a garda’s directions and criminal damage at an address at Kilmahuddrick Grove, Clondalkin, on September 3, 2016.

Walsh had been released on bail after being charged over a disturbance at the house hours earlier when he returned and caused the damage.

Sgt Maria Callaghan told the court that gardai were called to Kilmahuddrick Grove, Clondalkin, on September 3 last.

They met the accused there and directed him to leave the area. He left, but returned minutes later and was arrested, charged and released on bail.

Sgt Callaghan said Walsh returned again and began banging on the door of his partner’s house.

Her brother answered the door and the accused tried to get past him.

He shut the door and Walsh hit his head on the door, breaking the glass panel.

Gardai were called again and re-arrested Walsh. The court heard he had since paid €200 compensation.

Judge McHugh sentenced Walsh to 120 hours of community service in lieu of a three-month sentence.
