VIDEO: Footage shows extent of damage caused by Tallaght apartment fire

The extent of the damage caused to the Gleann na hEorna apartments in Tallaght during a fire last Wednesday morning has emerged.

Video footage captured today shows just how lucky those who were rescued were to escape unharmed after the blaze broke out at approximately 1:30am.

A total of 11 people were rescued by Dublin Fire Brigade, with some having to be lifted from balconies on the first and second floors.

Six of those rescued, including a mother and her three young children, were taken to hospital to be treated for suspected smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out on the second-floor landing of the block. The Echo understands that Gardai are following a line of inquiry that the fire may have been caused by a sofa that was allegedly set alight in a common area, however investigations are ongoing.

In the footage captured today the damage is clear to see, with the hallway and stairs on the second floor completely destroyed.
