€50,000 allocated for 14 parking spaces

WORK has commenced on providing 14 car parking spaces on a road in Clondalkin, shorn of such facilities for years.

South Dublin County Council have allocated a fund of €50,000 for the provision of 14 new car parking spaces in the Boot Road/Rockfield Drive estate.

Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin welcomed the announcement, which follows a “three year campaign by residents supported by local politicians”.

Deputy Ó Broin: “Residents in the Boot Road/Rockfield Drive estate have been campaigning for additional car parking spaces for many years. Originally built in the 1960s, many of the houses do not have private car parking spaces and road space is limited.

“In 2015, the Boot Road Residents Association made a formal request for additional car parking spaces during a deputation to the council.

“That request has been proactively supported both by myself when I was on the council and by my colleague Cllr Mark Ward.

“This is a great example of a local community working with local politicians to ensure that their local needs are met.

“While it is regrettable that it took so long these additional spaces will provide some relief to the current parking problems in the estate.”

SDCC said works have commenced for 14 spaces located at the southern end of the green triangular area on the inner Boot Road, and between two service poles on green space at Rockfield Drive.
